When I try to upload a picture to a post I get this message:

Unable to create directory xxxx. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    Any ideas?

  • you need to chmod wp-content or wp-content/uploads to 666.

I tried changing one, the other, and then both but it I still got error messages. Any other ideas?

The Image Manager Plugin. It does everything the 2.0.x interface is supposed to do for images and doesn’t. Also, it doesn’t require you to run with your whole wp-content folder insecurely chmodded. I install it for all my clients since I know I’ll have less after-installation questions if I do.

I’m just not having very good luck with uploading images. lol I installed the Image Manager Plugin, but I don’t have GD or ImageMagick and have no idea what NetPBM is.

I was able to add images by uploading them into a directory and then inserting the URL but the pictures came out distorted. I’m not sure what size it makes them, but WP wants them all to be the same size.

    Ugh! I need help!

I am having the same problem. I have two blogs hosted on the same hosting account with ANHosting. When it happened on the first blog I contacted host admin and they fixed it. I don’t know how. I now have admin working on the other blog, but they have not fixed it yet. If I figure it out I will let you know.

OK chief. I just got it to work. Here is what I did. Disclaimer: I am an idiot, and I am not sure which of the following steps were necessary.

First I had to create an “uploads” folder under wp-content on my server.

Then change the permissions on that folder to 777

Then in Wp-admin options, miscellaneous, uncheck organize into month and year (this may not be necessary). Anyway, i just uploaded a pic.

Thanks, I’ll give it a try.

make sure you have even got the folder called UPLOADS

common problem with 2.02 it doesnt create this folder yet in the admin it points to all uploads will go to

    wp-content/uploads

if you dont have uploads folder go create it.. in wp-content then chmod wp-content to 7777 and that will do it..

be sure to log out of amdin

Just want to say thanks! this really helped.
