I am unable to use two-factor authentication on my hosted site. When I try to set it up for my user profile, I enter the code and receive the message “Your OTP code is incorrect. Please try again.” It works correctly when I host the site locally. Everything else about the site is working correctly. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the Defender plugin, but that did not resolve the issue. Thank you.

    Hello @sambbaron

    Hope you’re doing well!

It is possible that the server’s time is different than real unixtimestam, it can be one minute behind. If there is at least 30 seconds difference the 2FA will return this message. Each OTP code has a window connection for 30 seconds, so when OTP code is typed of the current moment, the code available for a server is the code already expired at 1 minute ago.

Please contact your server provider and ask them to check the time() function so they could fix the issue.

Let us know how it went!

    Cheers,
    Nastia

    Hi Nastia,

Thank you for the quick reply. You are exactly right. That was the problem. I contacted my server provider, and they fixed the time.

    Thank you,
    Sam
