I installed sit-kit and tried to connect. The google login and authentication was successful. Thereafter, I am directed to verify domain. When I click verify it takes me to 404 page on my website. Apparently the html token is not being installed by the plugin to verify.

I have deleted and reinstalled the plugin several times with same result.

Thanks for reaching out @webappsi. So we can determine more on this, and ensure you can complete setup, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. A screen recording of your experience. You can use a service such as Loom or RecordIt to share a screen recording, while using the same form previously used to share this privately.?
    3. Have you been able to successfully complete setup before on this site? This may be from before migrating to a different URL, with a different wp-admin path, or changing hosts?

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

I posted the site health information but have not received any response.

I have tried using a different email since the previous one was already attached with another website. However, the same result.

I guess I am going to give up and find an alternate to add analytics and adwords conversion code.

On a reattempt, I noticed that when I click verify button the URL returned for verification has a different path:

    The path returned is:
    <span style=”text-decoration: underline;”>https://tidesacademy.com/2019/wp-admin/</span&gt;?action=googlesitekit_proxy_verify&googlesitekit_code=sitekit-LSxWvGMCWSGpAR6PNTAbSK&googlesitekit_site_code=4%2F0AeaYSHBhijPDJRUGiUHcGrd9VcUkALfwRVNbkNASCys2749BprNk0i36cBClpjBzKe2VDQ&googlesitekit_verification_token=80e0634d12f94457&googlesitekit_verification_token_type=FILE&nonce=26f4198579&step=verification

    The path should be:
    <span style=”text-decoration: underline;”>https://tidesacademy.com/2024/wp-admin/?</span>action=googlesitekit_proxy_verify&googlesitekit_code=sitekit-LSxWvGMCWSGpAR6PNTAbSK&googlesitekit_site_code=4%2F0AeaYSHBhijPDJRUGiUHcGrd9VcUkALfwRVNbkNASCys2749BprNk0i36cBClpjBzKe2VDQ&googlesitekit_verification_token=80e0634d12f94457&googlesitekit_verification_token_type=FILE&nonce=26f4198579&step=verification

I am assuming it is from one of the previous installation paths, which is not valid anymore. How to do I reset this?

Thanks for sharing the additional information @webappsi, apologies for the delay, support is provided over weekdays only.

To troubleshoot this further, when you land on the 404 page, if you change the callback URL to reflect your current site setup, are you able to proceed?

If not, please let me know if you were able to set up Site Kit successfully previously. If so, from when you site using the 2019 path?

I’m just following up with you to check whether the error remains? If so please share the information requested above and we can investigate further.

I tried changing the path but it didn’t work.

I even tried setting up with a new email, which is not linked to any other site kit installation it didn’t work. I removed the plugin and re-installed but it didn’t work… so I realized it is not worth the time and effort so I decided not to use the plugin anymore. I added the analytics code manually.

Appreciate the update, and I can understand the frustration and your desire to no longer use the plugin. If you are willing to give the plugin another try, I can certainly request a check of your site records on the service, as what I suspect happened is your callback URLs are incorrect based on the different paths in your site URL (2019 / 2024). If this is the case, changing your email or even resetting the plugin won’t always resolve this.

Do let me know if you wish to perform a check of your site records. I’ll close this support topic based on you since moving on, but I’m happy to reopen should you wish for me to perform a check. Thank you.

How do I do that? Check the site records.

    (@jamesosborne)

It’s not something that can be actioned on your side @webappsi. I put in a request for a team member to review your site records, on the Site Kit serviced which is used to collect the relevant data for your site from the various Google products (Search Console, Analytics etc).

Let me me know if you wish for me to check this for you and I’ll go ahead and do so. If we can find anything invalid records, can correct them to match your current site setup. I’ve reopened this support topic so we can troubleshoot this further. Thank you.

    Yes, please go ahead.

Not a problem, I’ll submit a request and let you know here as soon as I have an update. Thank you.

I have a question if you can clarify and perhaps it will help in identifying the issue here too. When the site kit plugin is installed, it connects using a Google a/c. My question is – can one have multiple sites connected using same Email/Google ID?

    Plugin Support James Osborne

    (@jamesosborne)

Great question. You can indeed have multiple sites connected using the same email/Google account. The issue with your current site in this support topic is more related to the previous site URLs registered on the Site Kit service (with WordPress files in a 2019 directory). This doesn’t impact any other sites you may wish to set up Site Kit on.

Note also that if you are able to revert to using the 2019 directory, you should be able to complete Site Kit set up. At that point you can reset Site Kit before moving WordPress files once more to a 2024 directory. Let me know if you have any questions on this. Regardless of whether you are able to revert to your previous setup, I’ll keep you informed here once I have any update with your site check.

Thanks for your patience on this @webappsi. It looks like there was one record for your site that referenced a previous setup (with the 2019 directory). This has been been updated. Can you attempt Site Kit setup once more and let me know how you get on?

    Thread Starter webappsi

    (@webappsi)

I reinstalled the plugin and tried again with a different Email ID. It worked this time.

Thanks for your help and patience. Much appreciated.

Glad to hear it @webappsi, appreciate the update. If you run into any further issue be sure to get in touch.
