    My web hosting is running out of space so I wanted to delete unused images on the server. I searched for unattached images and there are over 1,000 using space. Most are from when we post a draft of a post but then redo it because we saw an issue etc.

    My concern is that by deleting all these unattached images, I may actually delete the images off my blog! I don’t want that to happen. If an image is unattached, is there a guarantee those images are not part of a live blog post?

    I think if the blog post was created and then images were added to the gallery, and then inserted into post, they are still unattached or am I wrong?

    Basically I need to clear up space on the server and just want to make sure I am deleting the duplicate unused unattached images that were drafts that we no longer need.

    No, there’s no guarantee the images aren’t being used on a live blog post.

    Attached happens when you add images to a post. When you delete the post, the images are detached but not deleted.

    so in what instance then if I delete unattached images will I possibly be deleting them from live blog posts?

    If you used the picture on other posts.

    The picture is only ever attached to that first post, as weird as that sounds. it doesn’t get re-attached when you use it on the next post.

    so let me also understand this. If you make a post, and then upload images to the gallery and then choose “insert into post” are they attached or still not attached? I was under the impression after doing some searching that the images are still “unattached” according to wordpress because they were added after the fact. Can anyone clarify whether that is true or not?

    No, if you add an image after the fact to a specific post, it might be attached ?? Yeah, sorry about the headache. Let me try it a different way…

    If you have a post and upload images inside that post, they are attached.

    If you have subsequent posts and use existing images from your media library (i.e. you aren’t uploading them specifically into that post), they are not attached to the subsequent posts.

    If you delete the original post, the image isn’t attached to anything, but may still be in use in those subsequent posts.

    thanks for all your help! I appreciate it!

    Hello;
    I recently deleted my unattached images not knowing they could still be being used. I am VERY ignorant with WordPress, our website person we were using changed professions and we are trying to locate someone.
    Here is the problem. My logo that used to be in the upper left corner of my website (which showed on all of the pages) disappeared.
    How can I put it back?
    Again – I really do not know what I am doing so please think in layman’s terms.
