After adding about 100 featured images manually, when I went to my media gallery, all the images are showing as not attached to their posts?

When I run a media cleaner to check for unused images, it flags the ones I just set via the plugin?

    What’s happening?

Setting an image as featured for a post does not attach the image to the post. You can not detach an image from a post to remove it as featured image of the post.

An image is attached to a post if you insert the image into the post content.

Ok, that makes sense thanks. Not sure how to mark the feature images so they don’t get picked up on the media cleaner.

    Thanks for the info Martin.

With that plugin you can attach manually in the media library: Upgrade for Unattach and Re-attach Media Attachments.

Or would a new option “Assign image with post after setting as featured image” be helpful?

The new option would be a good one, save a lot of time later perhaps. I like the look of the linked plugin. Of course it would be easier if these clean media plugins worked out that an image was a featured image and not to be removed?

    Thanks again Martin.

    That feature will come soon!

With the new version 13.4.0 (out now) you can add a column in the media library. The column lists at each image for which posts the image is set as featured image.

To see the column go to “Featured Images” > “Settings” and activate the checkbox for that column. Go to the library. If the library would not appear in List mode, switch to the List mode to see the new column.

Always happy to help. If you would have any thoughts about that feature let it me know.

Thank you so much Martin, I’ll have to wait a little while before I can get the latest version. I have an older version, but I can’t afford the upgrade currently. It’s top of the list however.
