• Logged into my WP account today to find this had been ‘magically’ installed. I immediately deactivated it, haven’t used it and don’t intend to.

Why impose your product on someone, whether free or not? I want the choice about what I install to my website to be my own – and I’m already paying for the privilege in any case, as it’s a hosted site. Finding Sidekick installed without my knowledge is irritating and dubious – it’s a control panel version of spam email.

    Hi,

It appears that Go Daddy and Media Temple have begun installing SIDEKICK on all previously installed Managed WordPress instances. The intent is to be helpful but I hear you and we will address it with them.

You can send further comments / questions to me directly at [email protected] or reply to this thread.

Thank you and apologies for any inconvenience.

Thanks for your reply. I get that your intentions were to provide a useful plugin, but the means – installing it without notice, invitation or permission on a huge number of sites – will annoy as many people as it will help. It just doesn’t conform to good online practice in any way that I can see.

Perhaps adding a note into the dashboard so that it’s immediately clear for previously installed users what’s happened (and your advice about deactivating and deleting if required) would be useful during the roll-out.

    Happy Holidays,

Not happy about this unauthorised installation of SideKick! by Godaddy. Not happy with Godaddy again!
