• My client isn’t very tech savvy, and managed to get locked out of the site (the “You have been locked out due to too many login attempts” message.

How can I unblock her username? She gave me her ip address, but it wasn’t in the banned list. I couldn’t login with her username either and I’m not in the banned list either. (We are at different locations…so why would we both see that message? my personal login worked fine).

I temporarily fixed it by changing “Blacklist Lookback Period” to 0 days. But that’s a horrible fix! lol. I’m trying to avoid my client having to whitelist her ip address every now and then… that kind of stuff is hard for her.

  • A user lockout is temporary and will expire in (default) 15 minutes.

However it can also be released manually from the Release Lockouts section of the iTSec plugin Dashboard page.

Be aware that there is a bug in the user lockout functionality.
Once a user lockout has occurred on a certain username every subsequent bad login with that username with lead to an immediate user lockout.
The number of minutes in which bad logins should be remembered is ignored.
ALL bad logins (per user) from the past are counted …

Thanks for confirming that it’s a bug and I’m not losing my mind ??
Explains why changing “Blacklist Lookback Period” to 0 fixed it for now.

    Exactly.

I’d classify it as a blocker bug! :O
Fortunately I had another administrator user because I set an extremely high timeout.
