Undefined Variable On WordPress Login Page

  • Whenever someone logs out and the login box appears on the dashboard there is a:-

    Warning: Undefined variable $user_login in /customers/9/9/b/website.com/httpd.www/wp-login.php on line 1418.

    This error appears in the username/email field. I first though it was a plugin conflict. So I deactivated all the plugins but the error still occurs. I have never come across anything like this before. There does not seem to be any answer I can find.` Can anyone help?

  • I can not reproduce it on my installation. Which WordPress-version do you use? Did you enabled WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY in wp-config.php to see this?

    The version is WordPress 6.1.1 (latest I believe).

    I did not enable WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY in wp-config.php to see this. It appears in the login box that appears on the dashboard when you log out or the login times out.

    We had installed Anti-Spam by CleanTalk. There were some issues with the login page after the installation. They made some changes. But this issue is occuring when that plugin is deactivated

    However, these messages are different from the first one you mentioned. At least 2 seem to have the same reason as they appear in the same section of the file.

    Nevertheless, as I said, I can not reproduce this in my case.

    The 6.1.1 is the latest wordpress version, see: https://www.ads-software.com/download/

    Since you see the message even though you don’t have debugging enabled in wordpress, I suspect that PHP error logging is enabled on your server. I also suspect that the PHP version you are using may be responsible for this. Which PHP version are you using? I have 8.0 – you should not use any version below that.
