  • I have not seen this error before….

    Keep the file ‘wp-config.php’
    Delete everything else completely.
    Then unzip a fresh download from here.
    Upload those new files, being sure to do so in ASCII mode.
    Be sure all files have uploaded.

    Then see what happens ?

    Do NOT run install again – if you leave wp-config, it’ll just work.

    And if it still goes wrong, what ftp client are you using ?

    Think I can do that – but ASCII mode? Not sure about that!
    Should I also start again with the SQL database – using same names?

    I’m using CuteFTP

    In CuteFTP under Edit > Settings you can define how to upload files:
    ASCII
    Binary
    Auto-detect
    I am using auto-detect and alwyas worked fo me.
