I have looked all over the forums and I dont think there is a response… yet. So i am asking those of you who have succesfuly backed up and restored multilanguage databases to take a look.

Mysql Collactions are all in Latin_swedish.
Wordpress is set at the default: utf-8.

I can post, edit, re-post to my hearts content and the japanese characters are fine.

However, once I backup, and then restore, the encoding gets messed up. I can backup with phpmyadmin, mysqldump, using character-set=utf8, using iconv to convert, it doesnt matter what I do it gets messed up.

    Any ideas?

Furthermore, I have tried to make a new database in utf8_bin, utf8_general_ci but when I do this wordpress prevents me from saving japanese characters. (to work with wordpress utf-8 from a new database, what should my mysql collaction setting be?)

    ARGG! So frustrating. Any ideas?
