I’ve installed WordFence on a couple sites in a shared hosting plan.
Both scans I’ve run have returned a HIGH level issue:
Unknown file in WordPress core: wp-admin/session_mm_cgi-fcgi2739.sem

The file didn’t exist before the scan, and doesn’t exist after the scan. As near as I can tell, it is created in the “File Changes” portion of the scan, and then immediately disappears as the rest of the scan continues.

I’m assuming I can ignore this? Is there anything I can do to prevent it?

  • Hi @prettylou,

These files are created by PHP CGI / FCGI, and are safe to delete. Can you open up one of them and see what it contains?

It may be that one of the cronjobs failed (caused by Wordfence), or another plugin that is crashing and PHP is creating those .sem files.s

I’ve tried. I can see it appear in the directory in the middle of the scan, but by the time I try to click and view it, it’s gone with a “the file does not exist” message.

I think I’m safe to just ignore this warning?
