I don’t have a question. Unless it is, why is PublishPress Future unreliable. Sorry I cannot leave expired concerts and contests online for you. I have to manually draft them when this happens. Running 30+ sites with this plugin. It works well but when it doesn’t that’s all I hear about. So it’s 3 out of 5. Delete my review if you like. Seems kind of dishonest.

    Hi @lotuscorp

Thanks for moving this to support. PublishPress Future is the kind of plugin that can work differently across different sites, and especially across different servers, because it depends on your setup. So it does sometimes require troubleshooting.

Please try this guide that can help: https://publishpress.com/knowledge-base/troubleshooting-unpublish/

If that doesn’t help, please post back with what you find. Which sites are having problems? Are they on the same server as sites that are working?

That was actually helpful. It would have been good if the troubleshooting would have been a bit more explicit telling you where the visual examples shown can be found. I will talk to my Hosting company about WP_Cron. It wouldn’t be the first time they put us in the server ghetto. I’m having an issue with Post Scheduling on the same site so it is a likely candidate. Regards,
    E

    Thanks @lotuscorp

I appreciate you following on that. Let me know if you find anything that may be different between the sites that are working and those that are not.

I have replaced my wp-cron.php file last week and this keeps happening. I had another one miss its scheduled end this weekend.

    Hi @lotuscorp

Can you confirm that you’re still having issues with Post Scheduling? If you are, it may be an issue on the site. If that works, it may be a problem to debug with PublishPress Future.

    (@lotuscorp)

No posts are scheduling ok now, but not expiring reliably.

    Hi @lotuscorp

I’m closing this after 2 weeks. Please feel feel to post back if this remains an issue.

What it is doing now is really frustrating. When the cron event happens instead of putting the post into DRAFT it leaves it published and removes the expiration date. This might not be a big deal to a lot of you, but we use post expiration, for contests. I have dozens of sites, and spending my time to manually remove posts that were supposed to unpublish at midnight and could put us at some legal liability, is a real turn off. Did you decide to change the name from “Post Expirator” because you really don’t do that bit well?

    Hi @lotuscorp

    – All previous versions are available on this website if you think it worked better before a recent update. You can either download an earlier version or install them via the WordPress admin area using this plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-rollback/

    – If you have legal liability, I would recommend contracting with a developer. We’re here to help, but this is a free plugin that we maintain to the best of our time and ability.

    – If you’ve worked through all the steps in this guide, can you tell us what is in your debug logs, please? https://publishpress.com/knowledge-base/troubleshooting-unpublish/

    Thank you.
How long does it take for the debug logs to populate? I JUST enabled this.

ok, I had one kick off today. So I guess that answers the above question about “How long it takes?” It takes until it has something to log :P/

    2022-05-04 00:59:25 55063 -> CATEGORIES REMOVED Array ( [17] => Contests [1] => Uncategorized )

It appears to have done it’s thing? It was scheduled to go at 11:59 PM PST on May 3, 2022 though? This site’s time zone IS set to “Los Angeles” which should work as the station is actually in Seattle. So is it an hour late? (I’m in Italy, btw).

    Hi @lotuscorp, thanks.

Regarding the time, I see that the log is currently using the raw time from on the server, not considering the site’s time zone. This can be confuse, but the correct would be always store GMT time for logs.

Is the expiration set to unpublish the post or remove categories?

    Thread Starter Eric Cavanaugh

    (@lotuscorp)

It’s set to Remove from Category (from ‘Contests’ to ‘Uncategorized’). The ‘Contests’ are only displayed on the ‘Contests’ category page. Should I set them to ‘Draft’ instead?
