I have spent time looking in the forum for a solution to this apparently recurring problem, but can’t find anything that works for me. Last successful update was 2/9, manual update doesn’t change anything. I’m not a coder so hopefully there is a simple solution out there somewhere.

    Thank you

    Hi @opvelp,

Did you already try removing the wp-content/wflogs folder or its contents entirely via FTP or file manager?

If so, check your filesystem permissions and connectivity look good on Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page. Persistent problems with the rules.php file can be bypassed entirely by setting Wordfence to write to the MySQLi storage engine instead of a file if you haven’t tried that too: https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/mysqli-storage-engine/

However, if the problem is related to the connectivity section of your diagnostics page and the actual retrieval of rules is failing. If we can’t connect to your site, or your site can’t connect to our servers, let us know which error you’re seeing there.

    Thanks,
    Peter.

Thank you so much. Removing the content of the wflogs removed the rules update error.
Now having another problem with scans failing to start. Apparently this is related to a connectivity error:

Connecting back to this site via IPv6 (not required; failure to connect may not be an issue on some sites) (opens in new tab)

    This diagnostic requires cURL

Should I start a different topic for this new problem?

    Thank you!

Hi @opvelp, my apologies for missing your extra question.

Seeing a connectivity error in IPv6 isn’t uncommon as not all hosts support it, even if something such as Cloudflare assigns an address. So long as your IPv4 isn’t also showing an error, the site and Wordfence should communicate just fine for updates and scans.

    Thanks again,
    Peter.
