Hi, I’ve set-up Easy Updates Manager on a clients website, for context I use this plugin all the time so very familiar with it. I want to turn all auto updates off so they are only done manually, this is something I do all the time on websites but it doesn’t seem to be working on this one as some auto theme updates are still coming through.

In the general settings tab, when I select one of the options should it turn green? For example on ‘Theme Updates’, I’ve selected ‘Disable auto updates’ but it hasn’t turned green. ‘Manually Update’ is green for all of the different options (Plugin updates, theme updates etc etc) but when i try and select a different option it doesn’t turn green, so leads me to believe something isn’t working properly or it’s conflicting. This particular client is on a managed wordpress hosting package, I’ve made sure in their hosting that auto plugin updates are turned off but like i mentioned above some theme updates are still going through automatically as i’m getting the emails from EUM saying ‘Background update finished’.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @mildy3

It should be turned green when you change the settings on the General tab, but if not then there could be JavaScript conflicts and/or unexpected HTTP response code received from the server. I’m not sure which one it is, but if it’s not too much to ask, could you please look into your developer console on your browser and provide us a screenshot of the “Network” and “Console” information,

but you first need to click and/or change one of the auto-updates options on the General tab which will then give you the information we need in the “Console” and the “Network” tab

    Hi @anthoniusalfred

Thanks so much for your reply and apologies for the delay in coming back to you. See screenshots attached below. Any further advice you can provide would be most helpful.

    Hi @mildy3

Looking at the captured console tab that you provided, there appears to be a JS error (one that is red highlighted) happened during the process (after you clicked one of the update settings). I’m still not sure if it was caused by you clicking the EUM buttons, but can you confirm that you don’t get that JS error message when accessing the EUM administration page? you can just test it by reloading the page, open your console tab and see if it appears?

    Thanks

    Hi @anthoniusalfred

I’ve just double checked and the error is still there when I refresh the EUM general page, so even without clicking or selecting one of the EUM button options the JS error is displaying.

I’ve already tried disabling all the plugins (apart from EUM) in staging and then clicking on the EUM buttons to see if it then works but there was no difference. However, I didn’t check if the error message in the console was displaying or not.

    Hi @mildy3

Have you tried deactivating your active theme, and set the active theme to twentytwentythree ?

    Thanks

    Hi @anthoniusalfred

I haven’t, but I will try that in staging and let you know if that changes anything. Thanks!

    Hi @anthoniusalfred

I’ve just switched the theme to twentytwentythree in staging and the JS error is still there.

I’ve inspected the error more and could see in the JS link it was referencing Tatsu which is the page builder, I’ve deactivated the Tatsu & Tatsu Pro plugins and the JS error has gone. However, the issue in EUM is still the same, the buttons don’t turn green when clicked even once the JS error has gone.

This site is on managed wordpress hosting, do you think that could have any impact on EUM not working properly?

    Hi @mildy3

I’m not sure if it’s caused by the managed WordPress hosting, but when the EUM plugin is active is there an Update menu appearing in the admin bar?

    Thanks

    Hi @anthoniusalfred,

Yes, the ‘Updates’ menu is appearing in the admin bar for me.

    Hi @mildy3

If it’s not too much to ask, would you mind (in staging) deactivating all your active plugins except EUM, then set your active theme to twentytwentythree after that send your site information to us?. This information can be fetched via the Site Health under the Tools menu on the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard. Click on the Copy site info to clipboard button and then paste them here.

    Thanks

    Hi @mildy3

The team did a bit tweak to the EUM free plugin, and would like to know whether or not it resolves the issue you’re facing right now. So, if it’s not too much to ask, could you download and use it in your staging site. Below is the link to download the file

    Thanks
