• You know what sucks? When you do a whole bunch of work and then click Save or Publish and it goes to a mostly blank screen that just says Are you sure you want to do this? And there is only one option, which is yes. You click it and you go to a login screen and all your work is gone! Sometimes it autosaves, sure, but sometimes it does not. Or it hasn’t saved the last bunch of updates or most recent brilliant phrase you already can’t recall.
I understand that there is some sort of time limit on how long I can be logged in for, but it would be good maybe if I was automatically logged out after a certain period of non-connectivity.
For instance, the last time I was logged in to my website was last weekend. I left it and did not go there at all, all week. Today I went there and the Edit links were still visible, so I knew I was still logged in, even though I haven’t been there for a week. An hour or so later, it logged me out.
But why isn’t it set to like 12 hours or hours or something? A week? Probably more, as I don’t remember when I last actually had to log in.
So yeah, my request would be to stop logging me out while I’m in the middle of something. If it’s time to log out, have it wait until I leave the site, or at least let me Save/Publish what I’ve been working on before asking me to log in again.
    That is all.
    Thanks!

That’s not and has never been normal behavior for any WordPress installation. When you’ve hit the logout time then you should be prompted to log back in before you can proceed. Once you log in again then whatever you’re doing should continue.

A blank screen means something on your installation is crashing. What plugins and theme are you using?

This is something that has happened on two separate installations for me. The one I am referring to, as it happened just this weekend, was on a fairly bare-bones site. Two plugins: Akismet and iThemes Security, with Kage Green Child theme running. (Yes, I made a child theme from Kage Green theme.) The other site also has a child theme (I forget what it’s based on) and a bunch of plugins but it happened on the other site before I installed iThemes Security, so that can’t be it.

This weekend I did indeed get a popup window asking me to log in again, but obviously having lost stuff before, I closed that window and quickly copied my text, so as to have it if this problem happened again. Then I hit the Update button and got the screen of which I speak.

That’s were I would expect a timeout like that to be enforced. When you get that white screen does your web server’s error log tell you what’s crashing?

I don’t have access to the error log.
And, as stated, it was happening before I installed iThemes Security.
