Since WooCommerce 8.2 ALL values of a product attribute are being added automatically. This is very much an unwanted behavior / “feature” when operating product attributes with many values.

    (1) it makes the installation slow and breaking up and
    (2) it’s absolutely a waist of time to click away all the unwanted values and
    (3) it carries the risk that values are added/left in there which shouldn’t be there, having to add them manually makes user think about what they are adding!

If this is going to be the way forward then at least make this is “feature” something the administrator has to enable and put a maximum threshold of values that will automatically added (e.g. only product attributes with 5 or less values have the values automatically added when the feature is enabled, make the number 5 a configurable item).

In my opinion this “feature” is a mistake by the WooCommerce development team!!

  • Also having same issue and it’s being looked at here: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/40712

One thing I will say, you can click “select none” button to delete them all and re-add the ones you want. An annoying and unnecessary inconvenience and does nothing to solve crashes due to too many attributes consuming memory, but something you can do in the mean time until it’s resolved.

@stestory indeed an unnecessary inconvenience and also not preventing the shop managers from accidentally leaving invalid values in a product attribute behind. I know they are not as accurate like me as they only occasionally update product attributes and they now already do silly things.

I’m happy that I installed it on my dev environment (as usual) first so no issue yet in production but I really hope this gets addressed in a version 8.2.x.

    Hi there @stgoos ??

Thank you for contacting Woo support!

I’m happy that I installed it on my dev environment (as usual) first so no issue yet in production but I really hope this gets addressed in a version 8.2.x.

Kudos for utilizing a dev environment, as it is good practice.

Just to note, this has already been addressed with WooCommerce version 8.2.1, which is already released (direct link here). The changelog can be found here, for your convenience.
