unwanted redirects to https

I was previously using https, but decided to do checkout only with paypal and cancelled my ssl certificate and secure server. I went into the store settings and set “Force users to use SSL” to no. However when I click on the “checkout” button it links to https giving me an error. I have “payments” set only to use PayPal Payments Standard 2.0. I also have GoldCart installed, which I guess I don’t need anymore. Please help, my store is currently unusable and I am losing sales.
