Recently this site, of which I am the webmaster, has started to show a small version of the header gallery above the intended one, and in two places shows
    [SHOW PICTURE LIST]
which is also not wanted. I am not aware of having made any change that would cause this, and I want rid of it. [Note: I am not expert at programming WordPress and have not been able to locate where these messages start from….] Advice or help very welcome!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello @mahmacc

You can remove that if you edit your gallery and then go to the “Customize display settings” tab and then under “Show thumbnail link” you set-up that to “No”.
You can find more information in here https://www.imagely.com/docs/basic-slideshow/

    We hope that this works.

Thanks. That’s fixed the “SHOW THUMBNAIL LINK” part but not the
appearance of the smaller version of the slideshow where it should not be. The positioning of the intended copy also seems to be awry (too low). I suspect this has to do with recent changes to WordPress itself and its editor (I use the classic editor where possible). I did keep a private backup copy which shows how it used to look and is intended to look. I can supply screenshots if this description is not clear.

    Hi @mahmacc,

Absolutely. Some descriptive screens would help us a lot to understand the problem and to suggest a workaround if that would be possible

Ok. I have uploaded the screenshots to my work account as the simplest way to have usable links, although of course it’s not really meant for private purposes.
Screenshot1 shows the galleries as the home page is meant to be: this is taken from my backup copy. The site itself looked like this until recently, and the surplus thumbnails and space now ro be seen were not knowingly introduced by me. Screenshot2 shows the home page as it currently is (you can of course view the dynamic version by going to the URL for the site). The change happened at the same time as WordPress and plugin updates but I am not able to finger a specific cause.

    Hi @mahmacc,

Thanks for the screens but from what I see there are 2 different instances of slideshow galleries on the page instead of just one as you have mentioned in the first screen.

Can you please make sure to remove the first gallery from the page to see if the other one will look better?

Exactly so, but my problem is I have no idea how or why the first occurrence got there, and therefore no idea how to get rid of it. It’s smaller than the desired one and that in any case seems to be not quite in the intended alignment. The change was definitely not something I knowingly did. I have tried reloading the old home page which did not remove the problem. I am checking other ways of swapping old for new to see if it resolves the problem but so far I have found only the one shortcode call to ngg_images in all my files and that one call seems to give two sets of slides…..

    Apologies @mahmacc

Is it possible to perform a conflict check? Perhaps by switching into a default WordPress theme, you might be able to check if the problem is solved?

1.- Temporarily deactivate all your plugins except NextGen Gallery.

2.- Is the problem solved? Then, it was caused by one of your plugins. Please check one by one and find the one causing the problem.

3.- If the problem is not solved with the deactivation of the plugins, try changing to a standard WordPress theme, it could be a conflict with your current theme.

Note: You might also need to check on Appearance > Widgets and see if you have some extra slideshow in the header area.

Please let us know how it goes.

Sorry for the long delay in replying.

I feel sure the problem is not with another plugin because I have exactly the same versions of plugins, themes and WordPress on the active site and my local copy, but as shown earlier the two look different.
(However, I would be glad to know how to raise the nextgen-gallery image
to align with the Supporters images: on both copies the Choir images have slipped down the page slightly. This seems to have happened in the change of Wordpess versions. It was fine before and I have not edited that part of the home page. [I do hate it when software makes working programs or configurations no longer work correctly!])

I can reproduce the behaviour of the active site by copying the mysql database from the active site to my local copy without changing anything else. So the problem is hidden somewhere in the material stored in the database.

    Hello @mahmacc

We need to take some notes and escalate this issue to our developers
We may need to deactivate plugins and switch the theme while troubleshooting temporarily. Would you feel OK with that?.
If so, please report this issue as a bug using this form: https://www.imagely.com/report-bug/. Be as specific as possible and let them know Gaby referred you.

Note: do not forget to include this forum’s link.
    Many thanks!
