Unwanted side borders obscuring view on phone

Hi,
My site looks fine on a desktop, but on any phone there are right and left strips of gray that obscure the content on the edges. Here is what I’m seeing:

You can see that the content is sizing appropriately to the screen, but the edge content is being covered by gray strips. This is a bug that emerged in the last few weeks, site was working fine.
1. It occurs on all pages of my site, so I don’t think it is due to an element. I have tried disabling the footer.
2. Viewport meta code: <meta name=”viewport” content=”width=device-width, user-scalable=no, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1″>
3. Have tried including position:absolute etc. in header.php.
4. I have disabled my recent plugins and still see it.

Not sure what to do next! Any help is much appreciated.
