Earlier today, I submitted a new version of Hoffman. The new version includes several fixes for issues that have gone unfixed for months, but it also removes a lot of functionality that has been in Hoffman since day one. The video post format, quote post format, video widget and Dribble widget have all been removed.

Both the video and the quote post format utilized meta fields specific for Hoffman, which violates one of the rules for themes hosted on www.ads-software.com. I had to remove the meta fields in order to be able to release new updates for Hoffman, so that’s what I did. I removed the Dribble and video widgets because they A) are hardly used and B) feature functionality better added with plugins.

The removal of these post formats might create some issues for users who have used them on installations running Hoffman. If that is the case, let me know. I will do what I can to help.

  • Thanks for updating Hoffman, Anders. I love the theme.

Another suggestion for a future version. Do you think you could add some logic to replace ‘0 comments’ with ‘Leave a comment’?

    Thanks :))

While I understand the need to remove the functionality to stay in the good graces of www.ads-software.com and to ultimately make it easier for everyone to upgrade, losing the two post formats is a bit of a bummer.

Do you have a plan to add the functionality back in some different manner? And if not, is there some hacky way we could do it, perhaps as a child theme or something?

Either way, thanks. The theme is super awesome.

Yeah, I’m not thrilled about it either. The easiest way would be to just revert to the previous version of Hoffman, but of course, that would prevent you from upgrading to future versions of the theme as well.

The more effective way would be to download an old version, and move the post format functions in functions.php, content-video.php and content-quote.php to a child theme. That way, you would retain the post format functionality and still be able to upgrade to future versions of Hoffman.
