• I’m using the Upcoming Events widget in a widget area in the header of my site. On pages where I’m loading an ai1ec shortcode such as [ai1ec view="agenda"], the agenda renders, but it is not functional (clicking on any of the events doesn’t do anything).

When I take a look at the javascript, there is a huge chunk of the needed javascript that isn’t loading. I’m assuming that this has something to do with widget being loaded first, which needs less javascript because there is no animation needed.

If I remove the widget from my header area and add it to one of my footer widget areas, the shortcode functionality works correctly.

Also, having the widget in the header apparently doesn’t affect the main calendar page because it still works. It’s only shortcodes that don’t have functional animation when the widget is loaded in the header.

Is there any way around this?

The widget being loaded first is definitely the issue with its sparser javascript that it loads.

My horrible workaround for now is to load a text widget above the Upcoming Events widget that calls [ai1ec view="agenda" events_limit="0"] and then I hide that widget using css. The needed javascript gets loaded and makes my [ai1ec view="agenda"] in the page content work properly.

Would love to hear about a nicer solution…
