Upcoming Events Widget Monthly View Needed

Hi there, and thanks for this great calendar plug-in. My client has asked for a monthly view of the calendar in a sidebar widget. The Upcoming Events widget only offers the agenda view. I tried using the shortcode [ai1ec view=”monthly”] in a regular text/html widget, but it only shows the shortcode. Any thoughts?
