    @grace Massa Langlois – Yes, it is safe to update NextGEN Gallery.

    The “Compatible up to:” version is just read from a text string manually entered into the plugin’s readme.txt* file. We generally choose to update that value when we release a new version of the plugin, it does not indicate the plugin will have issues with the latest version of WordPress.
