There were no update of a requested functionallity, I just wanted to update the readme file and tried something out. The next real update will most likely contain a shortcode as I am having the most progress with that as of now.
I am still searching for a good solution regarding your request where the number of unread posts in a post is shown.

Any chance you have created a shortcode or can provide me with the php insert function so I can custom add the number of new posts in a Forum &/or Topic of the standard bbpress widget?

I’d sure like to have the numbers show up in our widget!!!
