Today’s Metaslider plugin update was interrupted during installation and failed. During updating, the site was in “maintenance mode” for a longer period than usual. When I could finally access the site, the sliders were gone -only the shortcode is visible. The Metaslider plugin is now missing from the dashboard. When I attempt to reinstall Metaslider, I get the message “Installation failed: Destination folder already exists.”
How is best to proceed? I cannot delete the plugin via the dashboard, because it is no longer there. Specifically what folder or files do I need to delete from my server to enable re-installation without losing the existing slider content.
    Thanks

  • Hi,

That happens in WP sometimes. I believe it’s related to the server timeout time. You just need to log into the server via FTP and manually delete the folder.

If you don’t have FTP you might be able to do the same thing from your hosting company’s cPanel.

If you’re unsure, then contact your hosting company for help.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I can access FTP, but what folder specifically should I remove. Is it htdocs/wp-content/plugins/ml-slider?
If I remove the entire ml-slider folder will I lose the slider content we created?

That’s the one. And we don’t auto clean up the database or images so you won’t lose anything.

I deleted the folder and have been attempting to reinstall the plugin. However, I am repeatedly getting the error message:
“Installation failed: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN”> 503 Service Unavailable Service Unavailable The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.”

I deleted the .maintenance file as well. However, I still get the error message.

Finally got it working – thanks!

    Hi,

Glad to hear it’s working! Let me know if you run into any more issues.

Hi, my Metaslider disappeared after a WP update this evening. It’s no longer in my dashboard. The slider where I had my metaslide has now been replaced with my first blog post (that’s random but I guess something needed to somehow get in there). It seems like I should remove it using ftp and then reinstall. thanks, Joan

Although I did update everything that needed updating after the WP update. I had a white screen of death but got in through my host. Then after updating everything my dashboard appeared again instead of the white screen. Argh! Should have paid more attention to the things I was updating – it was an “update all” that I did.
