• Hi, I need a suggestion. For my site I’m using the colormag theme, but to avoid problems during the update I had created a child theme (recommended by several wordpress sites and forums). Now if I want to update the theme, without losing the settings of the child theme, how can I do it? The main version is already updated, but not the child theme.

  • Hi @aless82joker,

    Thanks for reaching us,

Even if the parent theme is updated, the child theme is not updated, and no changes will take place on the child theme. All the settings of the child theme will remain the same, and only the parent theme will be updated.

You can update the parent theme and continue using the site.

Let me know of any other confusion or issues and I will be back.

    Regards

Yes this was clear to me, my question was if I wanted to update the child theme as well (therefore regenerate it from the updated theme) but without losing the settings. Unless the updates are that essential and then I can leave it as is

Anyway, I updated the original theme without touching the child. I don’t understand why I deleted the css codes created for writing bigger

I restored from beakup and it was fine again. The update also changes the child theme. No good

    Hi @aless82joker @jaydenreeves,

Thanks for reaching us and sorry for the inconvenience caused after the theme updates,

Since this was the major theme updates, we have modifies few things with the theme that includes the HTML markups, CSS, and various other code refactor. Since you are using the child theme, you’ll need to update the code by checking with the latest version of the theme. You don’t need to recreate the child theme but update it.

I hope you are clear now. If you still have any confusion kindly drop us a query here and I will be back.

    Regards

How to update the child theme? It won’t let me update. It just gives me the main theme update.

    Hi @aless82joker,

    Thanks for getting back,

Updating a child theme is a Manual process where you’ll need to change the code added previously. Since the child theme contains the code added by the theme users, it doesnot give the update like that of the parent theme.

The problem is another. Updating the parent theme must not change the child theme. But the latest update changes the child and crashes the site with the child theme. I created the child theme to not have these problems. So we need to fix this “update must not modify child”.

I wrote you in the chat and left you my email, but you ignored my request. The site with the update, in addition to modifying the writings and other items that I had customized, just crashes. I’m not getting any response from your site.

I need help with upgrading my theme. Presently I use a child theme of WP 2022 and I have several customizations. I would like to switch to WP 2024. Please advise on the safest way to accomplish this without losing my customizations.

    Thank you.
