If activated this plugin causes the site to be unavailable, saying:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /home/mysite/public_html/wp-content/plugins/stop-user-enumeration/stop-user-enumeration.php on line 104

Running a PHP version older than 5.4. Disabled the plugin for the moment.

  • Receiving the same error. My site has buddypress and bbPress installed as well.

Correct, this code wont work on PHP 5.3 or earlier.

PHP 5.3 is a non supported version of PHP and hasn’t been since mid 2014 and has outstanding security vulnerabilities, so I recommend you upgrade to a supported version.

Fabulous. This means I can’t use the plugin. ??

Ideally you should upgrade to at least php 5.5.

Being on an unsupported version of php is a security risk for you.

Not everyone can “update their server”. I’m using a host, like a lot of people out there, and I can’t upgrade anything. My host will, or won’t. He is running what he is running.

If your host will not upgrade you, I suggest sticking with version 1.3.3 here https://en-gb.www.ads-software.com/plugins/stop-user-enumeration/developers/ until you can migrate to a host that is running current supported software.

1.3.3 is functional, however does not stop all exploits, however it stops some

Thank you for your interest in the plugin

@lhk although the correct thing is to update your PHP ad 5.3 is end of life for over 2 years, I have made a change in the latest release that shoudl make the plugin compatible with PHP 5.3
