Update button not doing anything

We’re using a multisite installation of 3.6 with WPEngine.
On the Syndicated Sites tab, clicking the blue “Update” button fails to update any blogs, and always gives the message:
Update complete. 0 new posts were syndicated and 0 existing posts were updated
Clicking “Update Now” for each individual blog updates normally.
