• I’ve had this issue for the past several WP core updates. I go to the update page, click update, and it says update complete but then splash page says “Welcome…” to the same version before updating and the message that an update is available remains. Folder ownership and permissions are correct. I have disabled all plugins and activated twentyseventeen theme. It happens in single site and multisite. It happens with or without cache plugins. I have cleared the browser cache. I have tried updating manually. It appears that the files have been updated but continue to get notices that an update is available and ../update-core.php never changes. I have scoured Google and WordPress forums. I’ve found nothing. What could cause this?
Running Nginx on Ubuntu 14.04 with PHP 5.5.9. Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

    – Auto Updates can fail for a large number of different reasons and it is often hard to diagnose the failur0258520*/1 due to specific configurations present on each server running the update. For example, permissions may be incorrectly set, the unpacking of the new version might not have been properly verified due to high system loads with your host if many users are updating at the same time or they have a very loaded service, An IO hang, files are being validity checked and they fail due to a corrupted bit. There are many more reasons that things could have failed. Honestly there’s no good way to track down why a partial update occurred, we can only recommend what to do if one does occur.
    – Hence try MANUALLY updating. https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/update-to-4-9-fatal-error-cannot-redeclare-get_shortcut_link/

I expected as much. I’ve tried manually updating multiple times. Thanks for replying. Carry on…
