Recently our site automatically updated SiteKit from version 1.78.0 to 1.79.0. After the update, our wp-login link became disabled and the site started to generate errors 502 and/or 504. Prior to this update, SiteKit has been working just fine for almost 4 months now. When we manually disable SiteKit through FTP, our site works again with no error. If we resume the site using version 1.78.0, it runs fine, so we’re confident the issue is with version 1.79.0. Is anyone else getting this same problem? Can someone address this?

Hi @dpswayne thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear that you’ve been having these issues. The Site Kit plugin does not alter your login/admin path for your site. Checking your site currently, everything looks as it should.

Could you please provide the following information so I can look into this for you:

    1. Your Site Health Information. You can share this using our private form.
    2. Could you provide the details of what happens when updating the plugin? Any screenshots or recordings of this would be very helpful. You can use services such as Loom or Imgur for this.
    3. When this happens do you see any console errors you can share?

Let me know if you have any questions on the above.

    Hi Adam,

I’ll send you the Site Health shortly via private form.

Right now, our site has SiteKit deactivated and therefore it loads fine.

“If” we activate SiteKit, then both our front page and wp-login page start to fail loading. The first time you try it, it appears to load normally, but after entering password, etc., it takes forever and eventually fails. Then subsequent visits to the front page or wp-login page result in either an Error 502 or 504.

“If” we go in via FTP and disable SiteKit plugin, the site returns to normal.
SiteKit was the only plug-in update yesterday, resulting in the failure, so we’re confident this plugin is causing the problem.

I’m going to set up a staging site, which will be exactly the same as our current site later and activate SiteKit inside it. Then you can check the staging site to see what happens and if there are any console errors. I’ll email you when it’s done, and I’ll check as well.

    Thanks,
    Wayne

@dpswayne Thanks for all the information. It looks like something may have gone wrong when supplying the Site Health Information. Could you please try again and let me know once done and I will check once more.

Thanks for your continued troubleshooting. Please let me know the results of the test with the staging site.

Adam, sorry, I didn’t have time to finish the submit yesterday, but just finished it. I can tell you more. Today we re-activated SiteKit and our site appears to work. There are no console errors. However, “occasionally”, a page load, whether at the site or inside WP admin will result in a 504 error. After refresh and a little wait, it will then work again. The “impression” I get it activating SiteKit is slowing down the site, causing the timeout. I contacted Network Solutions to inquire/complain about the timeouts, but they’re saying they conducted tests and are not seeing timeouts. Either way, activating SiteKit is causing random 502/504 (mostly 504) errors here and there. Strange. Anything you can find would be appreciated.

@dpswayne No problem at all and thanks once more for the added information. Glad to hear that your site is now working with Site Kit. I have checked your site health information and nothing stands out here and everything looks correct.

I can’t currently see your Site Kit placed code but that may be because you still have the plugin deactivated is that right?

Site Kit only places code for your connected modules. If you are able to capture a recording of your experience with Site Kit enabled that would be very helpful to see. You can use a service such as Loom to capture this and share here.
