update error Plug in contact form 7 from 3.9.3 to 4.0

It is always possible that Contact Form 7 didn’t install or update correctly on your site. It’s a general problem with WordPress updates due to the unreliability of internet connections.

Delete the plugin folder at wp-content/plugins/contact-form-7/ and install the plugin again.

I have the same problem, and I don’t mean to thread hog, but simply ask whether it’s safe to delete the whole plugin folder and re-install it. Won’t you lose all your plugin settings if you delete the folder?
