I installed V5.16.4 of the Events Calendar 3 weeks ago. I am now advised that there is a new version of TEC and I need to upgrade. new version is V6.0.0.1
When I attempt to update I get update failed messages. They are different each time.
    Here are some examples:

Update failed: Could not copy file. the-events-calendar/src/Tribe/Aggregator/Record/Batch_Queue.php
Update failed: Could not copy file. the-events-calendar/src/Tribe/JSON_LD/Event.php
An error occurred while updating The Events Calendar: Could not copy file. the-events-calendar/src/Tribe/Integrations/WPML/Utils.php
Update failed: Could not create directory.
Update failed: Could not copy file. the-events-calendar/vendor/woocommerce/action-scheduler/classes/schedules/ActionScheduler_Schedule.php

Is anyone able to offer any suggestions on how to successfully update TEC?
    All advice appreciated.
    Thanks Yvonne

  • Hey @webmasterrvga

    Thank you for reaching out!
    This sounds like either

    1. A lack of available disk space on your hosting account
    2. A permission issue (aka your WP install doesn’t have the proper permissions to complete updates

What happens if you completely delete the plugin and re-install it from scratch?

    Hang in there!

    Hello Geoff,
Thanks for getting back to me.

I have checked with mu hosting site and we have reviewed all permissions on the wp-Logins folder and no issues.
I also have plenty of diskspace.
They are at a complete loss.

I am able to update other plugins with no issue with one other exception – a plugin called Shield Security. It has the same type of issue with copying an individual file.

Your question about uninstalling and re-installing.
I have tried this but it fails at the re-install.
    error message is:
Installation failed: Could not copy file.
    the-events-calendar/vendor/woocommerce/action-scheduler/classes/data-stores/ActionScheduler_HybridStore.php

I am on V 7.4 of PHP and V6.0.2 which Events Calendar should be OK with.
I am wondering where to go next.

    Hi @webmasterrvga,

Apologies for the delay here. Sorry to hear about this. Let’s see what we can do.

Could you try deactivating all other plugins except The Events Calendar, then try updating it? See if that makes a difference.

To be safe, we recommend testing it out on a staging site first, before implementing it on your main website. Please keep a working backup of your website.

Let me know if that helps.

    Best,
    Abz

    Hello Abz,
Thank you for getting back to me.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the The Events Calendar in my Test site. However I did deactivate all plugins in my Test site and tried to install The Events Calendar plugin from scratch.
I got similar error messages that I had when I tried to update the plugin.

Installation failed: Could not copy file. the-events-calendar/src/views/v2/month/top-bar/datepicker.php

I also have a much smaller website so I tried to install the Events Calendar on that one too but got the same error message:
Installation failed: Could not copy file. the-events-calendar/src/views/v2/month/top-bar/datepicker.php

Any ideas would be gratefully received.
    Thanks
    Yvonne

    Hi @webmasterrvga,

Yikes, that’s not good. Let’s see what more we can do here.

I did some digging, and this could be due to the files not having the correct permissions. I know you already checked with your hosting provider. Could you let them check the permissions on the WordPress folder instead of just one folder?

I have checked with my hosting site and we have reviewed all permissions on the wp-Logins folder and no issues.

See the reference here from WordPress Forum regarding the permissions:

    Changing File Permissions

Moreover, could you try manually installing the plugin via FTP? https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/managing-plugins/#manual-plugin-installation-1

Let me know how it goes.

    Best,
    Abz
