• Hi,

ever since upgrading to WP 4.6 all of my sites have been unable to update any plugins.

I’ve tested this in the default 2016 theme prior to a WP upgrade. I backed up a plugin (made a copy of the dir) updated it and it worked fine. Rolled it back then upgraded to 4.6 and it fails when I upgrade it.

This is the error that I’m getting.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all but one plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    hi esmi,

    thanks for your reply.

I have tested this on a dev install with one plugin and the default Twenty Sixteen theme and it still occurs.

I’ve renamed the plugin folder and moved one plugin (ASkimet) to a new plugin folder.

Re-uploaded all files from 4.6 zip apart from /wp-content

    And the problem still exists.

I am having the same problem in all my 10 WP installations, with different themes, that are WP 4.6.

Same problem here as well, but only on one of the WP 4.6 under my care which runs on PHP 5.4.45 and Fast-CGI.

I’d like to add that updating plugins in bulk via the Updates section is fine; just not one by one in the Plugins section, which calls for the ajax as shown in DigitalEssence video.

Having the same issue – possibly a php error? Has anyone tried downgrading wordpress?

    Same error:
Update Failed: <!DOCTYPE html> Maintenance Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.

    Anyone a fix yet?

OK clearly theres a systemic issue here.. mee too.. lots of code output after update or installation failure..

The same here. I get the same code when I try to delete a plugin.

I have the same problem, has anyone reached a solution?
I believe something is wrong with my theme but don’t have any idea how to fix it!

Check you redirect plugin. You might redirect the one of the dashboard file that’s why the plugin failed.
