I’m working to install WordPress for a client on 1and1 hosting (which I am not familiar with). I installed WordPress fine in the back office, but when I enter the Dashboard and try to update to the latest version of WordPress, I get this error EVERY TIME:

    Downloading update from https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-3.4.2.zip…

    Unpacking the update…

Warning: copy(/homepages/43/d300409144/htdocs/app438160177/wp-admin/includes/update-core.php) [function.copy]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /homepages/43/d300409144/htdocs/app438160177/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 200

    Could not copy files.

    Installation Failed

I’ve never had this problem with any other hosting so PLEASE help if you can ??

Sounds like you have a file permissions/ownership issue on at least 1 file and possibly more. You could ask 1&1 to look into it for you (especially if it’s an ownership problem) but from what I recall of their support, it might be a lot faster to upgrade manually.

I kind of figured that….but was hoping it wasn’t lol. I’ll try the manual upgrade and see if that works =\

Ok, it seems like a fresh install did the trick ?? I’m not sure what happened…buuuut….I’m glad it’s fixed lol
