Update failure from WP 3.4.0 to 3.4.1

    I started the automated update from WP 3.4.0 to 3.4.1

    The process seemed to run as usual telling text lines of the steps making right now. But the update was not finished coming back to the regular admin panel / dashboard. Instead it showed up with this WP message:

    No update required

    Your WordPress database is already up-to-date!

    At the bottom of this message it showed a ‘continue’ button. But clicking on that did not take me back anymore to the admin panel. Instead the regular homepage of my website showed up. When I wanted to login again to my admin panel with /wp-admin the message above showed up again. And clicking the ‘continue’ button again presented the homepage of my site again.

    No way anymore to enter the admin area of my site. What could I do to deactivate this message and to be able again to login to my admin dashboard? Furtheron it might be of interest why this automated update did not work as usual. Thanks.
