    Hi Folks,

I came across your link to the Advanced Settings for Apache using .htaccess before #Begin-WP.

I have just changed over to that version and it is indeed faster.

I was wondering what happens about updates to Cache Enabler.

    1) Will the normal Cache enabler updates over-write my ‘advanced-configuration’ in the future?

    2) How do I know the advanced-configuration’ needs updated? (If it is not over-written.)

    Regards and thanks,
    Angus

Cache Enabler doesn’t currently modify any server configuration files (e.g. .htaccess). This means Cache Enabler won’t overwrite anything in that file. We intend on eventually releasing the ability for the plugin to handle this in some form, but it will likely require user intervention and won’t be handled automatically. You can follow the progress of this feature over on GitHub in issue #176.

While there have been two times this has had to be changed over the last year, I do my best to avoid this. Right now we see this configuration as the user knows what is being done and how to manage their server. That means any changes required will be up to the user. It’s not a configuration used by many right now. When checking our road map I don’t see anything that would cause changes like we had in the past. If it does occur again we’ll try to create some form of notice. Just so you’re aware, it wouldn’t break anything. Instead, it would just go to WordPress and be handled in the default way through the advanced-cache.php file.

    Thank you Corey,

This is very clear and good news.

I’ve been using Cache Enabler for a while, but came across this facility in a review of the plugin by chance yesterday, and decided a further speed improvement is certainly worth a try. And it was!!

I’ll keep my eyes open for notices in your future updates, so as not to miss them.

    Regards and thanks,
    Angus
