Updated from 3.2.3 to 4.0.1 and now getting ‘Payment processing failed. Please retry.’ error. Then updated to 4.0.2 and still getting error.

Working in a staging environment, not publicly accessible. I have seen some chatter around this issue, any potential fixes coming?

Or are there any known conflicts? Disabling all plugins is not a great option as we have a slightly involved WooCommerce setup that relies on other plugins to even reach the checkout process.

    Was working great before upgrade.

    Thanks!

@dcumpton do you have some sort of custom fields plugin on checkout? Try turning that off.

@royho, I found the issue. We were deregistering the ‘wc-address-i18n’ script in our theme.

Unfortunately, I missed this on my first pass for theme form alterations while troubleshooting this issue. Please note, deregistering that script did not appear to impact 3.2.3, at least in test mode, I never tested in production.

    Thanks for your help!

@dcumpton what is the purpose of deregistering that script?

@royho, our goal was to disable WooCommerce client-side form validation and to re-order some of the checkout form fields.

Turns out it wasn’t a WooCommerce Plugin issue for me that was causing this issue/error.

I solved this issue by reverting to WooCommerce Stripe Gateway plugin version 3.2.3 (from 4.0.3).

    Hope that helps others too!

I also still have the same error. Neither disabling ALL plugins except WC and Stripe worked nor grading down to Stripe 3.2.3. I also emptied and disabled all caches. Any more ideas?

@opatzke did you try switching to a default theme?

@royho continuing from where @opatzke stopped, I did the same and I’m stillthe same issue.

    Hey @vannigoc,

To clarify, you tried disabling all plugins except WooCommerce and Stripe and switched to a default theme (like Twenty Seventeen) and still got the error?

While using a default theme and only those 2 plugins, do you have anything that modifies the checkout fields or redirects during the purchase flow?

I am getting the same “Payment processing failed. Please retry.” error from Cart to Stripe payment. It’s difficult to know what has changed apart from plugin updates to cause the error. the PayPal gateway still works so it has to be the Stripe gateway only.

I’m not a developer and don’t have the same coding savvy as dcumpton above.

    Looking for an obvious answer.

Hi @matthewdahlitz. In general, please start your own topic for your problem. Can you please try the steps suggested above, namely, temporarily disabled all plugins except Stripe and WooCommerce core and switching themes to Twenty Seventeen?

In every case I’ve seen so far the error you’re experiencing has been a conflict with a third-party plugin and/or theme code. If Stripe works with no other plugins except WooCommerce core enabled and the theme switched to Twenty Seventeen, then you can reenable your theme and re-test. If Stripe still works, then you can gradually reenable your other plugins, testing as you go, until you find the source of the conflict.
