• I upgraded to the newest version and now I cannot get into my site and all.

I was having difficulty editing items and upgraded thinking that might help. Once installed, I am unable to get into my site and get the error message that the site is under maintainance or has a programming error.

    Now what?

  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – re-running the upgrade manually using /wp-admin/upgrade.php.

Esmi, I have no access to my site at all. No admin, no FTP, nothing.

WordPress would not affect your FTP. Try contacting your hosts for assistance.

I have exactly the same problem and frustratingly do not understand a word of your solution. Basically cannot Access my admin page. Fed up.

Hello what is the error that you get when you try to log into the backend of your website? I had a problem in the past when my url was corrupted. I had to log into my server and edit my site through phpmyadmin. Here is my link if this helps https://mbrsolution.com/wordpress-version-301/27-cant-log-into-wordpress-backend. If the issue involves a plugin then you can delete the plugin folder from the server, this is a last resort but it works.

Also if you have a backup before the upgrade why don’t you try and recover the website using your backup? Troubleshoot the issue you are having then upgrade to the latest wordpress version and create another backup.

    I hope this helps you

Part of the problem is that I have no idea about how wordpress is set up, backends, etc.

I inherited a site that I try and add info to for a very small organization.

Most of the help solutions that people are offering are so far above my realm that I don’t even know how to begin to fix these issues.

I thank everyone, but to be honest…. I am lost.

Hello Jimratliff I understand what you mean. What you are saying is that you are a beginner to wordpress and at the moment you are stuck trying to fix this issue which is very challenging for you since you have no idea what to do. Can I ask you a simple question? how much knowledge to you have in web developing? This way I can have an idea how I am going to help you.

    Kind regards

    Very, very little.

I only know how to post things. That is the exptent of my “knowledge”.

Can you use FTP? Does your host offer a file management application as part of your hosting account?

I can see that it is going to be very challenging for you to try and fix this issue because of your little knowledge however if you are willing to make an effort I am sure that we can help you ?? The other suggestion is can you show us the link to your website? Maybe even create an account for me so that I can log in and have a look. I would also need access to your server and ftp details, any of the above to let me log in and have a look.

    Kind regards

I also updated my site to a newer version of wordpress and he fell, after several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to ask for a restore of the database to host my site, and the only way to solve it my problem.

Well these kind of glitches do occur every now and then. Unfortunately even I had to go through this trauma few weeks ago. It happens..

To everyone, Jimratliff e-mailed me letting me know that he got the issue resolved. He did not tell me how, all he said is that the server administrator repaired the problem from their end.
