    Hi Ben,

So I recently did the Tracks update and now my recipe plugin is faulty. I use WP Ultimate Recipe. I reached out to them as well, but I believe I have only done a recent update for your theme. I was notified that I seem to have lost the ability to comment on my posts, but only on the recipes. It’s kind of a weird glitch, because if any recipes had comments from before those are still visible and it allows for additional comments. Any clue what caused this? I never had a problem before so maybe the new version is not compatible with that particular plugin? I do have comments enabled in all posts.

    Hi Collette,

I’m sorry to hear that. Let’s get to the bottom of this.

Please install the WP Rollback plugin, and use it to switch to your previous version of Tracks.

If the comments reappear, then we can be sure it’s a conflict with Tracks. If you were a few versions back, let me know the version you were using as this will help me find the change that has affected the comments. This might also get the comments back while you wait for a fix.

    Thanks!

Thank you so much for helping out!!

So I just installed that plugin but when I go to my themes and select Tracks I don’t see an option to rollback. It actually tells me: No Rollback Available: This is a non-www.ads-software.com theme … which is strange.

Hmm okay I hate to ask you to install another plugin, but I think the fastest and simplest solution will be to install and run the Force Plugin Updates Check plugin.

Once installed, you can find a link to force a check in the toolbar at the top of the screen. It’s a hover item under the updates link.

I’ve had this issue before with the rollback plugin, and running the update check plugin usually makes it find the previous versions of the theme.

That worked for the rollback! And the comments still aren’t there. SO I guess it wasn’t the update…. Not sure what to do now. But, I am nervous about being on the previous version haha. How do I get back to your most recent tracks theme? And can I deactivate and delete those two plugins since I’m done with them?

    Thanks for trying that!

You can delete both of the plugins from the site now. You should see an update for the newest version of Tracks in your Appearance menu as well.

If Tracks didn’t conflict with the plugin, then it is almost certain that another plugin is the source of the issue.

Please try deactivating all plugins on the site temporarily to see if this fixes the issue (besides the recipe plugin). Then, you can then reactivate them one-by-one until the problem returns to find which plugin is causing it.
    ?
?Deactivating your plugins in this way won’t have any effect on their settings or data.

If this does not help, then I would assume that there is a setting within the recipe plugin that is causing the comment display issue.

Of course! Got my tracks back to the newest version!

I have been communicating with the plugin support as well. I love the way your theme looks so I’m sticking with it! So I can download a different plugin, which I don’t really want to do because I researched pretty well before making a choice. It’s obviously an issue between the theme and just that type of plugin though- since comments work on all other posts. I’ve reached out to the WP Ultimate Recipe plugin creator and he said it seems like the theme most likely doesn’t support custom post types? He said he can tell me what changes are required so I can edit the theme files, but that they will be overwritten the next time I update again. Do you know what this might be…? Or should I get him to walk me through it? I’m worried about messing up the theme if I try it myself haha, or not remembering how to add it back in to the code each time after an update.

I only tried one other recipe plugin, ZipRecipe, but it did not have support anymore so I chose to switch. I did have someone comment on a recipe when I had that plugin though…. if that makes a difference? I let the plugin creator know that as well to see if that matters since obviously that plugin was functional with your theme.

Okay I found the point of conflict with the plugin and Tracks. I put together a “child theme” for you, so you won’t lose these changes on a future update.

Click here to download the Tracks child theme

Here are the steps for activating the child theme:

    1. Visit your site’s dashboard
    2. Go to the Appearance menu
    3. Click on the “Add New” button at the top of the page
    4. Click on the “Upload Theme” button at the top of the page
    5. Click on the “Choose File” button
    6. Select the tracks-child.zip file you downloaded
    7. Click “Install Now”
    8. Once the page reloads, click the blue “activate” link

Don’t be alarmed if the site looks different with the child theme active. Some of the Customizer settings might need to be copied over, but they are not lost. You can use the Customizer Export/Import plugin to quickly copy your settings from the Tracks theme to the Tracks Child theme if necessary.

Installed! IT WORKED! My recipe posts now have comments enabled ?? ?? THANK YOU, BEN!!!!

Some of the customizations are definitely missing though, so I downloaded that plugin. I’m not quite sure how to use it though? I am in the export/import section. Would you mind walking me through how to get my prior customizations applied back to the new child theme?

    Thanks again!!

    Theme Author Ben Sibley

    (@bensibley)

    Great, no problem!

To use the import/export plugin, you’ll want to activate Tracks (rather than “Tracks child”). Then, in the Customizer (Appearance > Customize), you’ll see an import/export section at the very bottom. You can use the export button to download a file with your settings.

Once you have that file, you can switch from Tracks to the Tracks child theme. Then, visit the Customizer once more, and use the import button to add the file you just downloaded.

This is going to copy all of your settings over, and then it will be exactly the same, but with the comments showing on the recipe posts.
