"Update Profile" button in admin disabled

  • If I try to edit my own user profile via the admin, the Update Profile button is disabled. I can see it briefly flash white on page load, but then it becomes deactivated.

    I changed back to the default theme and no change.

    I also flushed my cache/cookies thinking maybe it’s related to using the Generate Password function, but no change either.

    Any thoughts as to what this could be? A google search didn’t reveal anything.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Yes, I deactivated all plugins in this way, and the effect is the same.

    Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Same problem.

    OK.. that was weird… I deactivated all of my plugins, and the Update button became active.

    I activated each plugin, one-by-one, and the button stayed active after each… all the way to the last one.

    But I noticed that when I am on a user profile and then click on ‘All Users’, in the left menu, the Update button immediately goes inactive, and the check box for “Confirm use of weak password” appears.

    So, it appears to be some sort of cross-wired JS issue.

    I tried updating a user record, and the Update button immediately goes inactive, and the check box for “Confirm use of weak password” appears.

    I disabled all of the plugins, and got the same result.

    I’m experiencing the same problem. I’m surprised after 3 weeks this hasn’t been resolved. Anyone hear anything?

    I’m finding that if I go to a user profile page /wp-admin/user-edit.php?user_id=[id] the ‘Update User’ button is active. If I make ANY change to profile, e.g. simply unchecking ‘Show Toolbar when viewing site’ the ‘Update User’ button immediately goes inactive. Obviously JS is involved.

    There’s a JS conflict with the password generation and Chrome autofill.
