Yes – did everything that was asked of me – still just hangs. I think I wilol not bother!

Are you on PHP4 or 5?

I think 1&1 still uses PHP4 by default, so you need to ensure scripts are processed by PHP5

If you have PHP4 (you can install a PHP-info plugin to find out if you’re not sure) edit the .htaccess file in the root of your WordPress installation and add the following to the top:

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php
