    I updated to the new version on my blog https://gods3x5.com/ and when I open my dashboard all I have is one column – Right Now, Recent Comments, Incoming Links, etc. All of my settings, plugins, etc. have vanished. I tried reading the suggestions on other posts in this forum but need some simple down to earth suggestions. I am running the Translucent Dream theme. Can someone help me fix this – can I just go back to a previous version of WordPress that works? Thanks for the help!

  • Have you tried:
    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins. If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    I read those instructions on the other posts but have no idea what you are talking about. I can’t get to my admin dashboard, so how do I get to phpmyadmin? Sorry – but could I have click here, then here, etc. instructions.

    I did try switching to the twenty eleven theme and it didn’t fix anything.

    You access phpmyadmin through your hosting/server account, not through wordpress.

    You can also rename the plugins folder using FTP or as mentioned by kamrankhan signing into your hosted account and using c-panel or whatever interface they provide for access to your files.

    I went to HostGator who hosts my blog and they were much more helpful than you guys. The plug in problem is wp-insert. Once I deleted it everything was working again.

    @justbegun: I suggest you start learning how to look after your own site. Whilst we can help people, we cannot do the work for them. All you had to do was review the sticky topic at the top of this forum.

    This is the only way I could fix the update problem

    WP 3.2.1 update media / editor fixed

    There was no problem with the update on my local machine.
    Found the problem relating to the database on my virtual host.

    It might be worth starting with a fresh database and importing the backup of your content only.

    Also using this method there is no need to add the following to your wp-config using this process:
    define(‘SCRIPT_DEBUG’, true);
    define(‘CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS’, false )
