Updating Jetpack from 4.7.x to 4.8 fails on multiple sites on different hosts, different set-ups, etc… …about 50% of the sites I’ve attempted to update have experienced the same issue.

I initially attempted to update through ManageWP, but site’s kept coming back as unable to connect.

So for those that failed (after 2 attempts) I logged into each dashboard and clicked “Update” on Jetpack. All failed.

I’m now in the process of uploading an uncompressed /jetpack/ plugin folder that I downloaded from the WP.org repository with FTP for each site that failed to update with the other two methods.

Don’t know what the cause is, but it’s problematic. As for numbers, we’re talking about approx. 30 sites failing to update.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Sorry about that! We’ve included more language files in this Jetpack update to translate Jetpack into more languages, and that means that the plugin is now bigger. Unfortunately, that also means that on some hosting plans, the update won’t complete if the server isn’t able to copy that many files.

Let me know how that goes!

It worked on all but one… …one of them I had to log into cPanel, upload the ZIP archive using file manager and then extract with file manager.

I think the previous failed updates caused all sorts of issues/corruption in the JetPack directory itself, so when I tried via FTP I kept getting errors about files not existing, etc.

I’m pretty surprised at how difficult this ended up being.
