So a few things I’m not happy about with this upgrade:-

    1. you are now showing permanently in the side menu in wp admin. Why? This is a set it & forget it plugin; I don’t want to see you there all the time. Please either correct this or give instructions on how to move you elsewhere

    2. where did the checkbox go for encrypting my password in my database? Is it no longer encrypted?

    3. under Tools > Debug Events, there’s an error saying “Debug Events are Not Installed Correctly”. This is because my database permissions are restricted for security reasons. Why do you assume it’s OK to simply add a new table to my database without my prior knowledge or even consent? The notes on this upgrade don’t allude to errors being logged in a new table; if they did I would have adjusted permissions prior to performing the upgrade. Instead I now have to do a restore and do it all again.

    Grrrr………………

  • No no no, not now! Now it was bought by a company and a company want visibility. So you got nerved with a unneeded permanent menu entry for a “install&setup&forget”-Plugin.

    Hi?@farnely & @hpr78

Thank you all for sharing your honest feedback and we apologize for the inconvenience.

    1. After considering all of the recent feedback we’ve received, we have begun testing an adjustment that should resolve this specific pain point going forward.

We do not currently have a specific date/time in mind, but this adjustment will take place in the next update that we are currently working on.
    2. SMTP Passwords are now automatically encrypted in the database.
    3. Again we apologize for the inconvenience. By default, WordPress allows the creation of database tables and we needed one to implement a new feature. We constantly want to improve Easy WP SMTP and only introduce new database tables when necessary.

    Hi @farnely and @hpr78,

we just released a new update (version 2.0.1), which includes a new setting in the Easy WP SMTP > Settings > Misc (tab), called Compact Mode. Please update to this latest version and enable that setting. It will remove the top level WP Admin menu entry for Easy WP SMTP and move it back to the WP Admin Settings submenu (where it was before the update).

Please let us know if that resolves your issue with top level menu items.

    Have a nice day!
