• Hello Anders, I just updated to Hemingway version 1.59 from 1.56 (I think… it might have been 1.57), and all of a sudden the text size on all of my pages, and the white space/padding between page elements, is much larger than it had been. The text size of both the titles of pages/posts and the content on pages/posts in larger. The text size of the menu and the side bars is not larger, but the white space/padding between menu elements is larger.

Is this supposed to have happened? If so, how to I change things back to the prior text size/spacing? If not, any idea what the problem might be?

I need to do a WordPress update, if that is something that might be relevant, but I wanted to check in here first before adding any more variables to the troubleshooting.

Thank you very much for the help.

    Hi @alison8,

There haven’t been any changes to the font sizes in Hemingway since the theme was originally released, so if the text sizes on your installation has changed with one of the recent updates, my best guess would be that there had been changes made to the theme files on your site to make the text smaller.

All custom changes to a theme are overwritten when the theme is updated, and I’m afraid there’s no way to get those changes back (without adding them again, that is). If you do decide to change the sizes again, I’d recommend you to do so through the Extra CSS field in the WordPress customizer (added in WordPress 4.9).

    Hi Anders,

Thank you very much for getting back to me and for the helpful information. I actually use a child theme to make any changes – so the update left those all intact. I’m not sure why, but for some reason it looks like the changes I described happened because the custom CSS in the child theme stopped being applied to the site. I just copied the CSS I have in the child theme into the new Extra CSS field in the WordPress customizer and everything went back to normal.

So, that’s good – but is there something in a recent update of Hemingway that could have caused the information from the child theme to stop being used?

Thanks again, and all the best, Alison

    Hi,

Where is your theme, in the source code, I see only the Hemingway theme.

    – We need to review this part

    “heading structure of this page”

    – failed,we detected errors in heading structure…
Assistive technologies such as screen readers use heading tags (h1-h6) to give visitors an overview of a page without the need for them to read through the entire content. Search engines can read headings to determine the importance of page sections. They can then use this information to gauge the page’s ‘weight’ for the search engine listings.

Would a visitor using a Screen Reader be able to quickly find the information they want from these headings?
