updated to 4.4 … cannot log into the admin – 500 error

    i just upgraded 4 sites to 4.4 on a shared server and now i cannot log into wp-admin on any of those sites, but i can log into older versions on that shared server.

    i get a 500 error after i enter my username/password and try to login.

    error log shows

    PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function Sodium\\randombytes_buf() in <DocumentRoot>/wp-includes/random_compat/random_bytes_libsodium.php on line 69, referer: https://www.mysite.com/wp-login.php

    server is running :
    php 5.4.42
    mysql 5.3.3

    please advise.

    i found the problem.

    my solution was to remove the two packages:
    libsodium-last
    php-pecl-libsodium
