• Just tried updating my site to 4.5. It said “temporarily unavailable” when I tired. And now whenever I try to go the dashboard I get the following:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare get_comments_popup_template() (previously declared in /home/idenbxpv/public_html/wp-includes/template.php:484) in /home/idenbxpv/public_html/wp-includes/deprecated.php on line 3699

    What can I do?

    Thanks in advance ??

Do a manual update. It is quite likely that you only partially updated WordPress. You left out some files, like the root wp-settings.php file and the other files in the main directory.

Manually updating all the files, and being sure you get ALL of them, will fix your problem.

I downloaded wordpress-4.5.zip, Now, how do you deactivate plugins?

You probably don’t need to go through every single step there.

If the issue is that you’re getting “Fatal error: Cannot redeclare” and so on, then the problem is simply that the files are incomplete. You only have a partial upgrade. Simply replacing all the files with the correct new ones from a fresh ZIP file will fix the problem. Don’t delete anything, just overwrite the existing files. It’ll work. ??

Not sure how to do that. Can you explain?

You need to access your web hosting server using an FTP software, such as FileZilla, and then locate the WordPress installed files, and then replace them by uploading the new WP files. However before you do this, you must download the new Wrdpress install onto your computer and uncompress them.

@boundbywanderlust: Not really, no. If you don’t know how to access the files on your website and replace them with other files, then I suggest you find a technical person and ask them to help you directly. This is sort of the very basics of running a website.

Speak to your webhost about it, perhaps. Maybe they can tell you the proper way to access the website’s filesystem. FTP, or through their web interface, or something like that.

I have the exact same problem and have to ask, why does this happen every time I update wordpress? When “Install Now” is clicked, why does it result in only a partial update?
