• Plugin updates, theme updates and WP-core updates all suffer a similar problem of non-communication between their update engine(s) and mission control (the dashboard).

The first step in the update process chain reports that it is underway, but never reports its completion. Consequently the initiation and completion of subsequent steps are never reported either.

If multiple plugins are submitted for update, the second and subsequent plugins are not updated because the first plugin is never reported complete.

This problem is NOT specific to 3.8 – it has manifested over several prior versions also.

Also, the problem manifests regardless of whether the update is downloaded from WordPress or uploaded by ftp from my desktop PC.

I would appreciate some advice on how to trace and debug what is going wrong. Thanks in advance. Steve

PS I forgot to mention that the update itself usually completes OK, just does not report as such.

Also sometimes leaves a .maintenance file behind.
