I was told by the developer to just overwrite the existing theme folder. Should be fine.

just overwrite the existing theme folder. Should be fine.

If you have made any edits or customizations, anywhere, in any file inside of that theme folder, they will most likely be overwritten and lost.

If that doesn’t apply to your situation, go ahead. Either way, it is good practice and an exceptionally smart decision to regularly back-up all of your existing files locally – especially right before any upgrading.

I agree with ClaytonJames — safety first. One way of testing a new theme release without completely committing yourself is to unpack it somewhere other than wp-content/themes and then move it into the themes directory with a new name. Then you can safely test it and see if everything works as it should.

Thanks for the response. When I replaced the folder I lost the setting somewhere in one of the files for removing the Parent and Child above each post in list form. Not sure if you know what I mean but I replaced the files with my backup. I just can’t remember in what file I changed that code.

It was some kind of code to disable or not show or something. I’m not a code guy. I just dug into it and finally found where to change it. But I just can’t remember where and what file. So I just replaced the files with my backup and it’s back like it was. The developer said it wouldn’t change anything but it did.

This is the look I’m talking about.

It was showing the Parent and Child Categories above the post title.
