• I initially installed 2.3.1
    All was fine.
I have upgraded to later versions following suggestions. NOW 2.8.5

I still have the Dashboard for 2.3.1.

I read lots of posts but no solution to this straight forward task.

    What determines the dashboard display?

The upgrade should have changed this.

What version of WP does it say you have in your admin dashboard? You may need to flush your browser cache.

It continually shows 2.3.1 Please update.

Browser cache cleared everytime I log off.

So I still do not know where WP points to get the version dashboard.

I appear to have all the php files for all the tabs on the version 2.8.5 but still not seeing them on the dashboard e.g. Tools tab is missing.

    wordpress/wp-admin/tools.php is present.

    Any clues?

You may not be able to do an automatic update from that old a version.

    Follow these directions: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Upgrading_WordPress_Extended
